The American Civil War Union V Confederacy
The American civil war broke out in 1861 when secessionist forces from the south attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The overarching reason for the fighting was the southern states believe in their sovereign right to have jurisdiction over states laws which included the ownership of slaves.
When the civil war ended with a union victory and the surrendering of General Robert E. Lee in 1865 over 1000000 soldiers and civilians had been killed or injured.
