WW2 Soviet SU-85 Tank Destroyer
The SU-85 tank destroyer was built on the chassis of the T-34 medium tank which was mass produced by the Soviet Union. Over 2000 SU-85 tank destroyers were built in a one year period between 1943 and 1944.
After Soviet forces began encountering German Tiger tanks on the eastern front quick work began on modifying 85mm AA guns to be used as anti-tank guns. This lead to the development of the D-5s 85mm canon which was built on the SU-85. The upgraded D-5T gun was capable of penetrating a Tiger tank about to 1000 meters away.
Despite its capabilities it was eventually withdrawn from the battlefield for the more capable SU-100 Tank Destroyer
