Taking place in early 1943 the 3rd Battle of Kharkov was a German counter offensive led by Field Marshal Erich von Manstein with his II SS Panzer Corps. Its goal was to recapture the city of Kharkov and defeat the Soviet armies that had destroyed the German 6th Army in Stalingrad.
After bloody house to house fighting throughout much of the city the Germans declared victory in March of 1943.
