Intially desgined for medical evac and utility transport the UH-1 helicopter which entered service in the earlier 1960s for the US Army saw wide spread operational use both in combat and non combat missions.
The Huey became an icon of the Vietnam war which witnessed over 7000 Hueys deployed over the course of the conflict. Its uncomplicated build process and ease of maintenance made it ideal for the jungle conditions of Vietnam.
The UH-1 was capable of carrying upto 4.3 tons of mission cargo or soldiers.
