The Ukrainian Army's BTR-4 entered service in 2009, featuring a more versatile design than the older BTR-60/70/80s. Its altered layout allows for easy customization to fit specialized roles and weaponry, including the locally designed New Armament Module with a 30mm 2A72 automatic cannon, 7.62mm machine-gun, and x4 ATGMs.
It also features and armour mix of steel, spaced armour and kevlar which gives the IFV good protection agaist heat shaped charges and shrapnel.
In total over 200 have been produced and around 90 have been lost since the 2022 Russo- Ukraine war.
