WW2 British Eighth Army (North Africa) x6
The British Eighth army was a massive field formation dedicated to the North African adn Italian theatre of operations. Its first combat operations began in 1941 when it took part in Operation Crusader. It was thrust into Libya on November 1941 in order to relieve allied Australian forces in Tobruk who famously became known as the 'desert rats'.
Under the command of Lieutenant-General Alan Cunningham the Eighth field army consisted of multiple armoured divisions as well as infantry divisions from across the Commonwealth.
The most decisive battle of the 8th army came when they defeat Erwin Rommel's panzer divisions in the Second Battle of El Alamein, near Egypt on November 1942.
