First entering service in 2012 the Pantsir-S1 is a short range air defence (SHORAD) system designed to deal with point defence of installtions that could not be defended by long range AD. This makes it useful against low flying cruise missiles and drone swarms that attempt to overwhelm larger AD platforms.
The Pantsir-S1 is armed with x12 57E6 two-stage solid fuel radio/optical command-guided surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) aswell as having two dual 2A38M 30 mm autocannon guns are fitted with 700 rounds of various ammo like HE-Frag.
