By early to mid 1944 the T-34-85 was present in most Soviet tank units ready to launch Operation Bagration. The T-34-85 was a direct response to the heavier Panzer IVs that were equipped with more powerful 75mm guns.
The T-34-85 features iumproved frontal armour including a larger turret that could accomodate one more crew member. The larger turret allowed for the installation of the larger ZIS-S-53 85mm gun instead of the weaker 76mm gun seen on the intial T34 varients.
Towards the end of WW2 over 22000 T-34-85s had been produced.
