Entering service in the 1942 for the Soviet Union the Yak-9 fighter played a critical role in wresting air supremacy away from the Luftwaffe during the 1943 battles around Kursk. It prove to be more then capable of taking on German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 and Messerschmitt Bf 109G fighters.
The Yak-9 war armed with x1 20 mm ShVAK cannon and x2 12.7 mm UBS machine guns. Additionally it had a top speed of 700km/h and a range of 675km. In total over 16000 such planes were produced.
