Formed in 1997 as a commando rapid response unit, the KSK is a special forces division of the German Bundeswehr.
KSK operatives have been heavily deployed in the Middle East and Afghanistan, with one of their most notable operations taking place during the Battle of Tora Bora. They have also conducted numerous missions throughout the Balkans, though many of the details remain classified and shrouded in secrecy.
