Led by renowned General Erwin Rommel the Afrikakorps (DAK) was formed in February 1941 to support Italian forces in North Africa. Under General Rommel the DAK used fast-moving, highly mobile units to engage allied forces.
The Afrikakorps fought critical battles in the Libyan city of Tobruk and the Egyptian town of El Alamein eventually conceding defeat against the British Eighth Army, under General Bernard Montgomery.
