Mechanised Landing Crafts came into extreme prominence during the second world war. The need to land troops and heavy armour via amphibious assaults was of paramount necessity in a bid to capture or liberate the territories of WW2.
The LCM Mk3 was used extensively during the D-day landings. It was capable of carrying 1 M4 Sherman tank and 60 assault troops or upto 27 tons of cargo.
For light self defence it was equipped with two M2 Browning machine guns and could travel upto 8 knots when fully loaded.
