The T-72B3 is a Russian upgrade on the T-72B which Russia had inherited 1000s off. Acting more as a cost effective stop gap measure till production of the modern T-14 Armata MBT picks up.
The T-72B3 features improved armour including built-in Kontakt-5 explosive reactive armor a more powerful engine, better fire control system and refurbished electronics. The main armament is a 125mm smoothbore canon capable of firing a 9M119M Refleks ATGW.
Russian currently fields around 600 such tanks with most of them being heavily engaged in the 2022 war in Ukraine.
