The BM-8 Katyusha was the first of its kind Multiple Launch Rocket Artillery. It first entered service in 1939. The BM-8 was mounted on a ZIS-5 Soviet truck and could fire x8 82mm High explosive rockets.
The Soviet Katyusha had the psychological effect of inducing shell shock among due the saturation effect caused by barrages of rockets even if they were inaccurate.
