The Lynx which first entered service with the British military in 1971 is a battlefield utility/ multipurpose helicopter. The Royal Navy among other uses primarily employrs for anti-submarine missions and Search and Rescue (SAR).
The Lynx HMA.8 is fitted with improved Gem 42-200 engines and alrger roters that give it a combat endurance of around 1000km. Additionally a front mounted FLIR was added on to the helicopter to improve its surveilance and intelligence gathering capacities.
